Dallas Claymond (ダラス・クレイモンド, Darasu Kureimondo) is a diplomat of the Gra Valkas Empire and a vice director of the Eastern Relations Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is a subordinate of Cielia.
Appearance[]
In the light novel version, Dallas is a young man with spiky black hair and a beard. He wears a brown military uniform.
Personality[]
Dallas is a servile and arrogant person with a blindly great pride in his country and the Emperor Gralux. As a result, like most of the Empire's leaders and officials, he had a clear disdain for all other nations and peoples, but to the extent that they are not considered human but belong to a lower race.
He has shown to have a short temper and is hot-headed, always show hatred and sarcasm clear to the enemy diplomat, which makes his career-choice as a diplomat to be odd. However, based on the Empire's long-standing status as a superpower, this attitude could be taken for granted and accepted, even encouraged.
When exposed to Japan, unlike Cielia who was wary of the bloody history and technology of Japan, Dallas, as always, still considered Japan just like every other weak country in the world, although acknowledging the superiority of laptops over their projectors. Despite this, he argues that laptop technology is merely a civilian technology and does not represent the power of Japan, which, in his view, is military technology. To back up that point, he cites the fact that Japan was defeated in World War 2, that Japan no longer owned the technology of building battleships, and their absence in the Battle of Baltica to suggest that Japan was only trying to hide its weakness with ridiculous and irrational propaganda. This mistake will lead to an underestimate for Japan that will lead to the catastrophic failure of the Empire.
After the total devastated loss of the Great Fleet in the doomed invasion of Japan, Dallas finally admitted that he was an utter buffoon for underestimating the Japanese and realized Japan never lied about their superior technology from the beginning. However, Dallas also figured out that the JSDF's weakness is that they are not ruthless enough to ignore collateral damages so Dallas was highly confident that he could use it as an advantage to help Gra Valkas Empire gain advantage over Japan on later military operations.
Chronology[]
New World War Arc[]
Dallas was first mentioned during the talks for the release of the Shikishima crew that was captured by the GVE. He was the initial diplomat of the GVE during this talks when the talks was taken over by his boss Cielia Oudwin.
He was the one that insisted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the attack against Mu in order to weaken its military. This resulted to the deployed of the 52nd Local Fleet known as Ishtam. Later, the Ishtam Fleet was destroyed by Mu and Japan in the battles in Otaheit and Mykal Offshore, respectively. Dallas wouldn't learn this until months later, by watching Mu's news network
During another round of peace talks, he and Cielia, saw first hand the true power of Japan when Asada presented a video about Japan through an OLED monitor and SD card (laptop in the LN). Unknown to them, their report was falsified by their boss Gesta.
After the Second Raid of Valkyries Base and the capture of Crown Prince Gra Cabal, he leaded the repatriation talks of the crown prince. He demanded the return of Gra Cabal, saying that GVE has the best medical technology in the New World and said to Asada that should Japan refuse, the GVE mainland will sent a fleet to destroy Japan. Asada refused to return Gra Cabal which prompted GVE to assemble a Great Fleet which aims to punish Japan.
After Great Naval Invasion of Japan failed, he watched the Mu news of the destruction of the GVE Great Fleet on Mu's TV broadcast in the dining room in the Leifor District. He saw a partial of video footage of the disabled and heavily-damaged the battleship Grade Atlastar that Japan sent to Mu.
He rushed into the office and contacted urgently from the military for the confirmation. The subordinates had already documented the encrypted signal while he was on break. He read the documents while tracing with his finger carefully. He was more than enough to shock the facts written of the reports. Written on the document was the progress of the fight between the Combined Fleet and Japan. They’ve suffered enormous casualties and yet they weren’t able to verify having sunk or shot down a single enemy ship or plane. The document basically said that they were lopsidedly destroyed without even seeing their enemy.
It was a catastrophic defeated without inflicting damage to the enemy. He finally realized that all Asada's words were true. If Japan participates in the war, the Gra Valkas Empire will lose to Japan with no hands or feet. If there is a gap of more than 70 years in technology...
He was shocked the matter of the fact that it was defeated with no hands or legs. It seemed that the aerial battleship Pal Chimera of the Holy Milishial Empire also participated this time, but it was impossible that it could not be confirmed that it had caused any damage to the enemy. Japan was overwhelmingly superior in military technology. However, this result was not a fluke or a coincidence. It was an overwhelming defeat that could no longer blindly close his eyes and continued to believe in the strength of the empire. He was terrified that the empire was in danger of extinction and he will desperately squeeze his wisdom to protect the future of the empire.
Dallas was posted in the Hinomawari Kingdom when Japan, Mu, and the HME decided to launch a joint operation to liberate it as part of their plan to eventually liberate Leifor. Dallas had left his office early, which saved his life when Japanese JDAMs destroyed all the buildings housing Gra Valkas troops and civil servants. Terrified of Japan's power, Dallas fled into the woods.
During the Liberation of Leifor, it was revealed that the Empire was planning a large-scale assimilation campaign against conquered peoples/nations and that Dallas outlined (at least in part) that plan. It consisted in sending the people of the Empire to live in the colonies and "crossbreeding" with the natives in order to create a class of "halfbreed" raised in the spirit of the Empire. To encourage local people to cooperate, Dallas proposed to put into use a number of incentive and reward policies aimed at creating an indigenous population loyal to the will and goals of the Empire, while gradually eradicating inferior natives through cultural assimilation and genetic admixture. It would allow the Empire to forge a foothold in new lands and more effectively resist the onslaught of enemies (such as Japan) although Cielia didn't support this plan as it makes GVE no better than barbarians. Furthermore, this plan also highly naive as he thinks Japanese does not have the guts to kill hybrids because of the fact they have native blood in them or the fact the hybrids would resent the pureblood Gra Valkans for treating them like second-class citizen.
After the Daigenera fortress on Mt. Daigenera had fallen at the end of the Liberation of Leifor, Dallas suffered diarrhea during his 250 km trek on the mountainous terrain west in an attempt to flee the Hinomawari kingdom due to a lack of food and drink. As he finally approached the great gate and spotted the silhouettes of people on top of the gate, which he thought to be still under Gra Valkas Influence, he tried to call for an official to open the gate, aiming to conduct vengeance against Japan. As the gate opened, three swordsmen, which were all women, swung their swords in his direction. Koh, a divine swordsman, swung her sword against him, pitting the sharp edge of her blade against his throat, only to realize that the Hinomawari Knights had occupied it. She beat Dallas up, even though he tried to exert his power of influence over her and those who surround him. Eventually, Dallas was arrested, with a record of making him swollen, and he was thrown into prison by the courts of Hinomawari. His infraction was evading arrest and attempting to exert influence to avoid arrest.
