HEAT Round penetrating an iron and wood gate door.

The HEAT or High Explosive Anti-Tank Round is a type of shaped-charge explosive that uses the Munroe Effect to penetrate thick tank armor. It was used to great effect in the New World.

Description[]

The HEAT round is a type of ammunition, normally used by tanks to defeat other tanks or lightly-armored vehicles and fortified structures. HEAT rounds use explosive firepower, rather than momentum, to penetrate armor. At its nose, the round has an extended impact sensor. When the impact sensor collides with a target, it ignites an explosive, which melts surrounding copper. A shape charge liner concentrates the molten metal and hot gases into a narrow blast that cuts through the armor. This also extends into the interior of the vehicle, causing heavy damage and casualties

Countermeasures[]

Presently, HEAT rounds are not as effective against modern composite tank armor or Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA). The reason for this is that composite tank armor possesses ceramic plates, which can diffuse and degrade the jet blast. ERA is effective due to exploding on contact, thereby diverting the jet blast away from the interior of the vehicle. As a result, HEAT rounds are more often used against lightly-armored vehicles and fortified structures rather than as a tank-buster.

HEAT Round in the New World[]

Rodenius War[]

HEAT Rounds were first used during the Pacification of Jin-Haag in the Louria Kingdom as a literal bunker-buster. They easily broke down the massive timber and iron gate of the main castle.

Operation Momotarou[]

During the said mission, the JGSDF's Special Advanced Platoon's Type-10 used HEAT round to destroy the Ancient Kaiser Golem.

New World War[]

During the Battle of Malmuth Mountains, the 7th Division of the JGSDF used SABOT rounds at first, against the Hound Medium Tanks of the 4th Armored Division of the Gra Valkas Empire. The SABOT rounds proved to be overkill as they sliced through the thin armor of the tanks and passed clean through them. The JGSDF then switched to HEAT rounds to destroy the tanks more efficiently.
