The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (海上自衛隊, Kaijō Jieitai), JMSDF, also referred to as the Japanese Navy, is the maritime warfare branch of the Japan Self-Defense Forces, tasked with the naval defense of Japan.
History[]
Japan has a rich and long history of naval interactions with her Asian neighbors back on Earth. And that rich history has continued in the modern times, and the JMSDF is considered to be one of the most-able maritime forces on Earth in terms of conventional power.
Military Doctrine[]
Back on Earth, like its co-branches, the JMSDF's focus was the defense of the homeland, particularly guarding the surrounding waters of Japan against North Korea and China
After the transfer, the JMSDF's doctrine has changed and now focused, not only the defense of the homeland but also the defense of those they considered its allies. In addition, the JMSDF was now being provided with the resources to make it a true blue water force, including amphibious assault ships and aircraft carriers.

Trivia[]
- The Asahi or the Rising Sun Flag (旭日旗, Kyokujitsu-ki) was originally used by feudal warlords in Japan during the Edo period (1603–1868 CE). It is also the war flag of Japan during World War II. Currently, a modified version is being flown by the JMSDF, as well as the JSDF and the JGSDF.
