La Kasami

La Kasami

La Kasami-class Battleship is Mu's state-of-the-art battleship that is manufactured by Rigliera Bissunds.

Description[]

Its appearance and performance are almost the same as the Mikasa, the battleship of the Imperial Japanese Navy which served as the flagship of the Allied Fleet during the Battle of Tsushima Strait on May 27-28, 1905 that defeated the Russian Baltic Fleet, which traveled 33,000 km just to reach the Far East. The Mikasa itself was a modified Formidable-class battleship built by the United Kingdom for sale to Japan.

Pre-Renovation[]

In the Web version, the engine is first thought to be an internal combustion engine (diesel engine) but according to the explanation at Kure Naval Arsenal in Japan, upon inspection it is the same as the Mikasa, as it also uses an external combustion engine (steam engine) to run the ship.

In the book version, it was stated that it was using an internal combustion engine, but the type of oil uses is unknown whether in uses a Type A oil (light oil) or a Type C oil (diesel).

Fuel oil diesel has three features:

  • Much higher efficiency than a steam engine
  • Low fuel cost
  • Difficulty in increasing the output compared to a steam engine

The armor of La Kasami is similar to the Mikasa (World War 1-level), as well as the armor technology of Grade Atlastar (World War 2-level) is not much far from each other. However, the Gra Valkas Empire has much advanced armor-piercing rounds, has much more advanced fire control system, high-angled, long-range guns that able to hit the lightly-armored deck of the La Kasami. Another is the use of Gra Valkas of more advanced fighters and bombers that able them to use more advanced armor-piercing bombs to breach its poorly-armored deck.

After the Battle of Folk Strait[]

In the Battle of the Folk Strait, Mu’s battleship La Kasami was wrecked to the shore by a run-down caused by a shot, but escaped sinking. After being damaged, as proposed by Myrus and the pro-Japanese Mu faction while in Japan, due to good international relations with Mu, the Diet decided to strengthen Mu as a buffer, La Kasami was towed to Japan and repaired at Kure Naval Arsenal in Hiroshima Prefecture which Japan will repair and renovate it in accordance with the provisions of the New World Technology Outflow Prevention Act (the law allows repair and remodelling, not the construction of a new ship).

Domestic Upgrades[]

While the first ship of her class was sent to Japan for repairs, Mu upgrading the other ships in its arsenal with domestically produced weapons it could produce. During the Battle of Baltica, all five La Kasami class Battleships deployed by Mu's Task Force were equipped with domestically produced 20mm anti-aircraft cannons for added air defense.

Renovation[]

The major prerequisite for the renovation was that while the ship would be repaired and renovated in such that it would have an advantage against World War II level ships in accordance with the provision of the New World Technology Outflow Prevention Act, though the resulting renovation must not pose a threat to Japan.

Because the specs of the book version of La Kasami is different from its Web version like the book version uses a diesel engine, replacement with a gas turbine engine is also allowed, and there were many things that could be done.

Confusion and Problems[]

However, problems started to arise. First, the Japanese government has called for a return within five months. This was due to a request from Mu to join La Kasami Kai in the Battle of Baltica. However, returning it to battle means not only repair and refurbishment, but also explanation of the new weapons and technologies installed by Japan and the training of the crew members on operating the new weapons and technologies. Missiles and radar installation are no problem, but when it comes to guns and FCS, the team must develop not only hardware but also the software at the same time, added to the fact there are no more battleship-class gun manufacturing facility on modern Earth.

The technicians would have their heads squeezed by too much difficulty, and the holidays would have gone away.

As a result, the renovation will proceed in the form of rush work and the use of existing weapons.

Post-Renovation[]

Below are the results of the renovation Japan has done to La Kasami, which is now called La Kasami Kai

Before Renovation After Renovation
Full Length 131.7m 136m
Full Width 23.2m 23.2m
Standard Drainage Volume 15,140t Unknown
Organ
  • Diesel engine (book version)
  • Steam engine (web version)
Gas turbine, four combined gas or gas system (COGAG)
Output 15,000 horsepower Unknown (estimated 80,000 horsepower or more)
Speed Up to 18 kt Up to 32 kt
Main Gun 2 twin units and 4 guns (Caliber: 305 mm)
  • Main Gun (Front): 3 155mm gun
  • Main Gun (Rear): 1 127mm naval gun
Secondary Gun 14 single units (Caliber: 152 mm) 4 x 120 mm gun (bore and side)
Addition Armaments None
  • 2 x 533 mm torpedo launcher with 8 Type-89 torpedoes
  • 2 x 3-twins 324 mm short torpedo launcher (sides)
  • Type 18 short-range ship-to-air guided missile launcher (Approximately 100 missiles with 8 (probably) 4 missiles)
  • Improved medium-range multi-purpose guided missile (100 rounds)
  • 4 high performance 20 mm cannon

Main gun (front)[]

6-in caliber (155 mm) three twin cannon[]

Japan used the barrel and the mechanism of the JSDF's 155 mm howitzer. The turret is equipped with composite armor to compensate for the reduced power and the FCS' accuracy and automatic firing

In particular, the FCS and gun control mechanism are all completely new and it is phenomenal to complete them in less than six months. It is a hat for the engineers.

Main gun (rear)[]

127 mm naval gun[]

Japan installed Oto-breda 127/54 Compact Gun as it rear main gun.

Secondary gun[]

120 mm Type 10 Turret[]

It certainly has the highest armor penetration capability and very high accuracy, however it is considered to be a close-combat gun in naval standards. Due to the rush work, (in various ways) it seems quite impossible.

Other armaments[]

Short-range ship-to-ship missile launcher[]

Probably equipment is under study for the purpose of licensing such technology. It uses the vehicle version of the Type-91 Surface-to-Air Missile.

"Improved medium-range multipurpose guided missile" test weapon[]

Probably equipment is under study for the purpose of licensing such technology. It uses the Type-96 multipurpose missile. However its range is quite short for anti-ship operations. It is comparable to the Hellfire anti-tank missiles equipped on the AH-64D Apache but has the ability to shoot simultaneously.

Torpedoes[]

Japan installed HU-606 533 mm torpedo launchers for the Type-89 torpedoes.

Future renovations[]

Although it is a bit of a problem at first, Japan contacted Mu and said that renovations like this will be continued in the future.

Service History[]

La Kasami/La Kasami Kai[]

Pre-New World War[]

First appearance when the Japanese diplomatic mission visited Mu. It introduced as a symbol of the Mu Navy, Saeki said at the time was "the ship is just like the Mikasa." Myrus asked the Japanese diplomats about the Mikasa and said that the ship is already retired more than a hundred years ago, citing that ship building technology of Mu is a hundred years behind Japan.

New World War[]

La Kasami is used an an escort for the Mu diplomatic team that attended the Eleven Advanced Nations Conference in 1642. As usual, it completed its mission and went home. However when Gra Valkas Empire declared its plan of world domination, it was attacked by the Imperial Fleet and she faced the Grade Atlastar. See Battle of the Folk Strait for details

Defense of Mu[]

On the morning of December 24, 1642, renovations were completed and she was handed over to the Mu Navy, and on January 28, 1643, she was escorted by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force 4th escort group and returned to the Otaheit Naval Port in Mu.

On February 7, 1643, La Kasami Kai departed from Otaheit Port after being informed that the Gra Valkas Imperial Fleet was approaching the capital Otaheit.
