Marin

Marin

Marin is a fighter aircraft developed by the superpower Mu. At the time of Japan's transference, it was considered by Mu to be the most advanced combat aircraft ever built.

Description[]

The Marin is a biplane that is colored white with blue stripes. It is propeller-driven, powered by a reciprocating, internal combustion engine. It has a fixed landing gear and is armed with twin machine guns with a caliber of 7.92 mm as their primary armament. It has an open cockpit and is an all-metal design.

As an aircraft, the Marin does not have all the downsides compared to riding a Wyvern. It does not require food and one does not have to worry about the amount of feces a Wyvern produces. It is stated to have a top speed of 380 kph (236 mph) and is piloted by one person. It is said to be superior in aerial combat to even the Wyvern Lords.

As stated by Remille during the Japanese-Parpaldian War, Mu had refused to export the fighter to other nations.

The manga version of the aircraft shows it as a two-seater.

Specification[]

Marin's performance is similar to the Nakajima A4N of the former Imperial Japanese Navy.

Though the Marin's exact specifications are not completely detailed, its performance is similar to the Nakajima A4N of the former Imperial Japanese Navy. It is the last biplane that Nakajima designed.

  • Crew:
    • Single-seater
    • two-seater trainer
  • Powerplant: 9-cylinder 600 hP radial engine
  • Propellers: 2-bladed fixed-pitch metal propeller
  • Maximum speed: 380 kph
  • Armament: 2 x 7.92 machine gun
  • Avionics: Radio equipment

Weaknesses[]

Like all biplane designs, the double wings may give greater lift but at the cost of higher drag. As a result, the fighter's overall speed and maneuverability is limited. It may be able to out-turn its rivals at slower speeds, but it cannot match their rate of climb or diving ability. Furthermore, the open cockpit and lack of oxygen equipment limits the service ceiling of the Marin. It was unable to reach the altitude of the Guti Maun bombers. The short-range weapons and lack of radar also means it is highly vulnerable to opponents that can strike from BVR. Lastly, the double-wings also result in greater target space for the enemy to shoot at.

Service History[]

Though Myrus was proud to show it off to the Japanese ambassadors, he was quickly let down once he learned that the Japanese were not impressed with the airplane as they considered it to be antiquated and did not compare with modern jets. He was even further shocked to learn that the Japanese aircraft were already capable of supersonic speeds.

During the war between Japan and the Parpaldian Empire, it was mistaken that Japan was using the Marin, instead of the Mitsubishi F-15J.

The Marin would be used against the Gra Valkas Empire during the New World War. Though not a match against the faster monoplanes (Antares) of the Empire, the biplanes were still effective in strafing enemy positions after a bombing run.

At a later time during the New World War, the engineer Myrus would have a discussion with his superior about using Japanese auto parts, specifically the turbocharger, in order to increase the Marin's power output and speed. Since Japanese automobiles were exported to Mu and other countries, this was their loophole through Japan's New World Technology Outflow Prevention Act. He had even gotten the blueprints of the Kyūshū J7W1 Shinden fighter plane and the Nakajima Ki 84 Hayate fighter (designated as Army Type 4 Shippu fighter) from the end of World War II and proposed to have the Shinden built with a jet engine from the Kawasaki T-4 jet trainer. In honor of its Japanese origins, it was to be named the Shinden Kai.

Following their diplomatic relationship with Japan, all Marin units have been installed with a radio to increase combat effectiveness as seen during the Raid of Valkyries Base.

Trivia[]

  • In the LN, It is not only the blueprints of the Hayate and the Shinden that Mu got, but also the blueprints of the blueprints of the Nakajima Kikka, Japan's first jet fighter from the last days of WW2. However, Myrus presented only the Hayate and Shinden blueprints, not the Kikka.
