The Qua-Toyne Principality (クワ・トイネ公国, Kuwa Toine Kōkoku) is a country located in the northeast of the continent of Rodenius. Blessed by the goddess of fertility formerly known as Astarte, Qua-Toyne possesses a rich and highly fertile soil, capable of effortlessly producing bountiful, pest-free harvests year after year. For this reason, most of its inhabitants are farmers, and the Principality is the main provider of food for the continent and neighboring islands, including recently Japan.

According to the method of geopolitical and technological categorization employed by the international community of the New World, the Qua-Toyne Principality is classified as a country outside the civilization area, which means that it is located in that peripheral region of the planet that contains all the nations with the least advanced level of magical and technical-scientific knowledge and weakest military.

The Qua-Toyne Principality is the first foreign country encountered by the Japanese following their magical transference to the New World, as well as their first ally and trading partner.

History[]

In the past, this place was the last stronghold of the Alliance of Races against the Ravernal Empire.

Chronology[]

Prologue[]

At the time of contact with Japan, Qua-Toyne - along with the Quila Kingdom - was in tension with the Louria Kingdom due to ethnic conflicts.

One day, a JMSDF P-3C aircraft flew over the port city of Maihark, causing a bit of chaos the defenders of the city. After the initial surprise, Qua-Toyne increased the patrol force in its waters and airspace while still not knowing the origin of the unidentified flying object. It was quickly revealed when one of their ships discovered a "gray giant ship." The JS Izumo, moving in their waters, revealed the origin of both the ship and that flying object. They are all from a country, claiming to have been transferred into this world, named Japan.

Realizing the possible threat from Japan due to their superior technology, Qua-Toyne immediately agreed to a diplomatic negotiation and requested to send a diplomatic mission to Japan to collect more information about this country. Qua-Toyne found that, despite Japan's overwhelming power, Japan was quite friendly. Japan's passive behavior was clearly shown when they were told that the country faced an impending food crisis and decided to establish diplomatic relations with them, despite their superior military.

Both countries later established a number of agreements:

  • The Qua-Toyne Principality will export the required amount of food needed by Japan.
  • Japan, in exchange, will expand Port Maihark in Qua-Toyne and establish transportation infrastructure from Maihark to the farmland regions using Japan’s capital for the transfer of food products.
  • Japan and the Qua-Toyne Principality will continue to strengthen their diplomatic relationship with one another.
  • A monetary exchange rate will immediately be in place.
  • As compensation for Japan’s bulky purchase of food from the Qua-Toyne Principality, for a period of one year, Japan will establish essential infrastructures (water service, electricity, gas service) within the Qua-Toyne Principality.
  • Afterwards, the food will be purchased according to the established exchange rate.
  • Japan will continue for a conference with the Qua-Toyne Principality to discuss the signing of a non-aggression treaty.

Japan and the Qua-Toyne Principality were able to establish a favorable relationship. This inseparable mutual relationship between the two countries will later be described as “a ship where both nations shared a common fate, a ship that challenges the violent torrent of this world.”

Rodenius War Arc[]

Due to the Kingdom of Louria wishing to annex the Qua-Toyne Principality and the Kingdom of Quila to cleanse the region of all non-human denizens and create a unified empire on the Rodenius Continent that can rival the Parpaldia Empire, the Kingdom of Louria waged an undeclared war on the Principality and its surrounding territories. The Lourian army would commit horrendous atrocities on the people of Gim.

In light of the massacres at Gim and the threat of having to lose a major food trading partner, the Japanese government labelled the invading army as “a group of insurgents” to avoid violating their own constitution. This was happily accepted by the Principality of Qua-Toyne.

As the King of Louria was the one to have ordered the invasion and the ethnic cleansing, he was seen as a war criminal and was arrested during the Battle of Jin-Hark. In the end, the Qua-Toyne Principality and the Quila Kingdom were saved, and the Lourian Kingdom was left in turmoil of civil wars.

Great Eastern Nations Conference[]

While hosting the Great Eastern Nations Conference, both Qua-Toyne and the Kingdom of Quila spoke very highly of Japan, due to their aid during their conflict with Louria, and their vast technological investments in infrastructure and quality of living in their individual countries. Most of the other nations outside of the Civilized Areas agreed, except for the Mao Kingdom, which considered Japan as a major threat.

Gaiden 1-3 - Friendship visit to Japan[]

Qua-Toyne and Japan have agreed to arrange a friendly visit to Japan, with a fleet of 20 warships carrying 3 Wyverns, 20 horses and 100 soldiers of Qua-Toyne docking at the port of Yokosuka and taking part in a variety of cultural and military exchanges.

Technology[]

In general, Qua-Toyne's technological level is extremely low, only equivalent to that of the Middle Ages. However, thanks to its diplomatic relation with Japan, the standard of living has greatly improved, with modern conveniences such as gas stoves, water purification systems, railroads, transportation, and improvements of infrastructure. Though they cannot obtain military technology, such as the F-15J, they still enjoy being under the protection of the JSDF, due to their pact to supply food to the people of Japan.

Economy[]

The Qua-Toyne Principality is an agricultural society, and most of its economy is built on their ability to provide crops. According to them, their lands were blessed by the goddess of the land to never have blight or harmful insects invading their grain fields. As a result they were easily able to provide Japan with the required 55 million tons of food per year. However, many crops, such as coffee, do not exist in Qua-Toyne, so Japan must bring seedlings from the mainland and plant it in Qua-Toynian soil.

As a result, their economy increased considerably. Supported by infrastructure provided by Japan, they face economic and social prosperity.

Military[]

The army of Qua-Toyne, like most other uncivilized countries, is equipped and organized much like those in the Middle Ages, with soldiers armed with swords, spears, shields, and bows, and organized in square formations. Due to their poor equipment quality, Qua-Toyne - like many other uncivilized nations - relies on wizards as support, from communications to executing high-damage support attacks.

They also maintain a small navy with at least 80 warships (however, the actual numbers may not be much different), equipped with combat boats that look looks similar to the Trireme war-boat. Their basic naval tactics are, thus, also very primitive, such as launching rain of fire arrows on enemy ships or getting close to enemy ships for boarding actions and melee combat.

As a poor and low-populated country, Qua-Toyne is unable to maintain a large army. In the war with Louria, Qua-Toyne can only mobilize a maximum of 50,000 troops (including reserve forces), which is, basically, overwhelmingly hopeless when compared to the forces of the Kingdom of Louria. As a result, Qua-Toyne focuses on pursuing the doctrine of defensive warfare.

Currently, Qua-Toyne's independence is guaranteed and is militarily supported by Japan, allowing the country to be firmly protected against other threats.

Politics[]

Surprisingly, the nation's political system appears to be a democratic one, similar to socialism. Much more politically advanced than other civilized countries. However, there is also have an aristocratic system.

Foreign Relations[]

Japan[]

Qua-Toyne was the first country to have made contact with Japan. Japan's reconnaissance aircraft flew over their port city of Maihark, causing a small uproar here. Qua-Toyne's navy later discovered a JMSDF ship off the coast, which led to a series of events that led to the establishment of diplomacy with Japan.

Quila Kingdom[]

The Quila Kingdom and the Qua-Toyne Kingdom interact regularly, and many immigrants from Quila come to Qua-Toyne for work so that they can send food home. As the only countries on the continent with mixed populations of humans and non-humans, they stood at least least unofficially against the racism of the Louria Kingodm. Qua-Toyne diplomats helped Japan make content with the Quila Kingdom, eventually leading to its massive resource agreements with Japan.

Louria Kingdom[]

This region was hostile to both the Quila Kingdom and the Qua-Toyne Principality and sought to annex both nations, and cleanse them of their non-human citizens. After the intervention of Japan, the kingdom has collapsed due to a civil war and is no longer a threat.

Trivia[]

  • Qua-Toyne Embassy is the current occupant of the former Austrian Embassy.
  • It is revealed that Qua-Toyne and Quila are now nearing the level of a Quasi-Power due to their trade with Japan.
