Sabot being discarded, leaving the penetrator

The SABOT Round is a type of ammunition used by tanks to defeat other tanks or fortified structures. It's official acronym is APFSDS or Armor-Piercing, Fin-Stabilized, Discarding Sabot. The word 'sabot' is a type of wooden shoe, and the round itself is wrapped in a shoe-like outer casing.

Description[]

The SABOT or APFSDS is composed of a rod penetrator, encased in a 'shoe' casing. Once fired from a tank gun, the casing breaks apart and falls away, leaving only the penetrator. The penetrator has fins like an arrow or dart, in order to stabilize its flight. As a result, the tank gun does not need to be rifled to put a spin on the projectile. The penetrator is composed of reinforced steel, tungsten and depleted uranium. This alloy is strong enough to pierce even the thickest and strongest tank armor through sheer kinetic force alone.

SABOT Round in the New World[]

Operation Momotarou[]

In the Topa Kingdom, a 120mm SABOT round was enough to kill the demon Nosgorath after he exhausted his mana to maintain his magic shield.

Japanese-Parpaldian War[]

The JGSDF first used SABOT rounds against the 'tanks' of the New World. In this case, it was the Parpaldia Empire's Land Dragons during the Battle of Fenn Kingdom. They proved to be extremely brutal dragon killers and would even kill any infantry behind them.

New World War[]

During the Battle of Malmuth Mountains, SABOT rounds would first be used against the Hound Medium Tank of the 4th Armored Division of the Gra Valkas Empire. They would prove to be too excessive as they would punch through the 2-inch frontal armor and out the back of the tank with no explosion. The other Gra Valkan tank crews would not realize that their comrades were already dead. The JGSDF would then switch to HEAT Rounds to destroy their opponents.
