Slavery and enslavement are the state and condition of being a slave, wherein a person is coerced by a slaver into working for little or no pay, and is deprived of physical liberty. In chattel slavery, the enslaved person is legally rendered the personal property (chattel) of the slave owner.
In economics, the term de facto slavery describes the conditions of unfree labor and forced labor, where people are forced or compelled to work against their will. In the course of human history, slavery was often a feature of civilization and legal in most societies, but is now outlawed in most countries of the world.
Overview[]
Slavery on Earth began during man's earliest history, even within hunter-gatherer societies. At its most basic fundamentals, slavery is a form of economics in which slaves are used to produce products or services. This is often to the benefit of the slavers and to the detriment of the slaves As a result, the slaves are seen as little more than property and are considered expendable.
Slavery was also used as a form of punishment for those who break the law. As a result, the criminal loses his/her basic human rights and must work without pay as a form of penance for his/her crime. In other cases, slavery can been seen as a form of payment if one does not have the means necessary to purchase or trade. In many cases, the slaves themselves become a form of currency.
In modern times on Earth, slavery has mostly been outlawed. The only country that has still practicing slavery widely is North Korea.
Slavery in the New World[]
Third Civilization Area and Outside Civilization Area[]
Due to the fact that these areas are still within the medieval to pre-industrial levels of technology, slavery is alive and accepted. The Parpaldia Empire saw fit to enslave the citizens of other nations they had conquered, and even demanded a yearly tribute of slaves in exchange for technology shares which serves as one of the diplomatic cards for the Parpaldia Empire. Prisoners of war were often sold off as slaves. Slavery is also seen as a very lucrative business. This would all come to an end when Japan defeated the Empire in a short, lopsided war and the 73 nations under their control regained their independence.
Second Civilization Area[]
It isn't mentioned how far slavery has gone in these areas, as mechanized nations such as Mu, do not have slaves. However, it is possible that slavery still exists in places that rely more on magic.
Gra Valkas Empire[]
Slavery is accepted as the Gra Valkas see the people of the nations they have conquered as the 'spoils of war.' The atrocities committed by the military in Alue were given a blind eye by the upper brass. The Prisoners of War could be considered to be utilized to do any labor jobs that are deemed necessary by the Gra Valkas Empire.
First Civilization Area[]
There is no mention if slavery is accepted in this part of the New World, though it is a possibility.
Japan[]
After their defeat in World War 2, slavery was long-since abolished in Japan and is mostly seen as inhumane. However, slavery is still applied in a humane way and in a more sensible way that was accepted by the government. One of the prime examples is to pay the damages or crimes by working on such a company without getting paid for a set amount of time while still caring for them such as providing food. This decision was made should the owner of the store or a company did not wish to carry this over to the police, but remain to notify it that they reach the agreement.
